The Lion of Judah Academy NewsletterNOVEMBER 2025
UNREST IN TANZANIAThere have been various types of political unrest in Tanzania following the October 29, 2025, national elections.  This ranged from widespread business destruction to even death and murders.  Estimates are that as many as 1000 people may have died.  Lion of Judah Academy (and all schools in Tanzania) had to shut down for a while as instructed by the government.  All the students and staff were safe and our buildings were untouched. We are continuing to pray for their safety, especially during the upcoming school break when students will be returning home in December.
2025 WORK TEAMSThis past summer we had two work teams. Both were a great success. One group worked at The Lion of Judah sewing mattress covers, renovating the primary library, working with students, and on various other projects, including visiting and helping out at the health care center..The other team did a “Disability Outreach,”  and fitted 80 disabled children in specialized wheelchairs while at The Lion of Judah Academy and in Mwanza.

New Ground — Never Before Plowed with a Tractor!School Gardens — You Wouldn’t Believe all the Zucchini! They LOVE itEnjoying Fresh MangosNothing Runs Like a Deer – Even in Tanzania!NEW PROJECT – NURSERY SCHOOLWe are building a Nursery School! This new Nursery School project will be separate from the main academy.  But it will be directly adjacent to the school (on adjacent school property) and operate under the umbrella of The Lion of Judah Academy.  Our station needs to become more and more self-sufficient.  This nursery school is a very important step in that direction.  The initial, start up costs are going to be challenging.  But the long-term benefits will be significant. The nursery school student families will all pay full tuition.  This will generate valuable income to support the financial needs of our scholarship students — none of whom are able to pay the cost of their education.  Since becoming a government center a few years ago, our area is not only growing rapidly, but also is experiencing a tremendous influx of government workers and professionals who need services of this kind.  Our community, however, is lacking in child care services.Following over a year of extensive investigation and discussion, the school believes this project will both supply a critical need in our community, and generate much needed income for the Lion of Judah Academy and student student sponsorships.Cost details are still being gathered and worked out.  We estimate initial costs to be in excess of $50,000.  If you would like to help us build the classrooms, supply teaching materials, fund the fencing and outdoor playground, or pray for us, that would be fantastic!  More details and specifics will be coming soon.  This is going to the the focus of this year’s Giving Tuesday Matching Gift campaign.GIVING TUESDAYIn 2025 we will have another Matching Gift campaign!  It will kick off on Giving Tuesday, December 2, and continue throughout the month of December. The focus of the project will be the Lion of Judah Nursery School project (see immediately above)Additional details will be posted just before Giving Tuesday, December 2WORK TEAMS FOR 2026JULY WORK TEAM- Led by Hart and Lynn InlowWe are planning a short-term mission trip to The Lion of Judah Academy during the coming summer of 2026. Scores of Lion of Judah Academy students – most of them children of poor, faithful Tanzanian pastors and church workers – are in need of sponsorship to assist with tuition and school costs. The school cannot exist without these sponsorships and they are a primary means through which many support the work and ministry of The Lion of Judah Academy.

URGENT SPECIAL NEED — MEDICAL SCHOOL COSTS!We have just received word that one of our former students, Salvatory, has been accepted to attend one of the top medical schools in the country.  He has received a scholarship for living expenses, however he is responsible for all this other tuition and school fees.He is very bright, talented and capable.  But his family is very poor.  His costs for his first year of medical school will be about $2500.  He doesn’t have much time to reserve his space…it will only be held if he is able to pay at least a portion of his fees.If you would like to know more please contact us or donate here, noting your interest in supporting Salvatory.
PRAYER NEEDS:— Please Pray for the Health and Safely of our Staff and Students; the students and staff will be on break during the month of December.  Please pray for safe travel to their homes, and a time of refreshing for all the staff and students.— Please Pray for the nation of Tanzania as it goes through this challenging time of national unrest and difficulty— Please Pray for adequate rains, to bring abundant harvest from all the preparations and planting which has been done in the school gardens— Please Pray for funds for all the students who need sponsorships…God knows their needs, and God answers prayer!— Please Pray for the Nursery School project as we raise funds and take the initial steps toward making this project a reality.
May God Bless You,

UPDATE on 2025 Matching Gift ChallengeBuilding Self-Sufficiency for the Future

Greetings, Everyone! We’re five days into this year’s Matching Gift Challenge, “Building Self Sufficiency for the Future,” and we’re nearing $10,000 donated toward our $26,200 goal! That’s a great start!A big “Thank You” to everyone who has generously donated!  $9,450 has been matched!  $16,750 is yet to be matched! You can visit here to learn more about the project, which is focused on developing The Lion of Judah Nursery School, an important part of our strategy to make The Lion of Judah Academy more self-sufficient.Here are a few other updates you may be interested to know about.First— Classes have concluded for 2025, and will resume the first week of January.  Wednesday, December, 3, was the final day of classes, so students and staff are on the December break.  For most grade levels the school year runs from January to December, so when students return in early January they will be beginning a new academic yearSecond— Because of the political violence in Tanzania all schools, including Lion of Judah Academy, were required to down for several weeks in November.  That effectively canceled the annual fall graduation celebration.  In place of the graduation, all the graduates were invited to join in a special “Good Bye Celebration” on Saturday, November 29.  While they were not able to enjoy all the traditional Tanzania-style “pomp and circumstance,” they did have a wonderful celebration together.Third — PRAYER REQUEST!! — December 9 is the Tanzania equivalent of our independence day.  Tension is VERY high they there may be more political violence, like that experienced a couple of months ago. Please be praying!!Finally, thank you to our donors who stepped up to help Salvatory meet the financial requirements to enroll in medical school.  He has enrolled and is started classes! You can donate on the websiteOn FacebookOr through Venmo:
May God Bless You,
