Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child

Each year The Sherman Church participates in Operation Christmas Child, an effort sponsored by Samaritan’s Purse which helps children in more than 130 countries.  It is one of our favorite missions, where children and families bring wrapped shoe boxes up to the front of the church so they can be sent during the holiday season.

Anyone wishing to participate should fill an empty shoe box with items for a boy or girl including toys, school supplies, hygiene items, sunglasses and other items suitable for a specific age.  You may also pick up a clear plastic box at the church office Tuesdays through Fridays. This is a wonderful project in which even the youngest child in the family can actively participate.  Boxes will be dedicated during worship service on November 14th.  Boxes may be dropped off during worship, or to the church office.

A complete list of items to include and a list of things NOT to include can be found on Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child.

A donation of $10 to cover shipping is also requested and can be placed in the box, or if you’d like the Missions committee to fill a box on your behalf, you can contribute funds for the purchase of items for a box. For further information, contact the church at 860-354-6114 or missions@shermanchurch.org.

You may donate by check during the worship service or at any time by making a check out to The Sherman Church with Operation Christmas Child in the memo line. You may also donate online at this shermanchurch.org website under “Tithes and Offerings” with Operation Christmas Child in the Comments box.

Boxes may also be “filled” online by going to Samaritanspurse.org and clicking on “Operation Christmas Child” and then “Build a Box”.  For $25, you may pick out items to go in your box, and it will be done for you. The $25 includes the $9 shipping cost.
