The Christmas Eve 7:30pm service at the Sherman Church will be very special this year. Church Music Director Penny Rose and her daughter, Ann Gerschefski, both of Sherman, will present a prelude of Christmas music for flute and piano before the service at 7:15 pm at the church, 6 Church Road.
Penny is a founding member of the Hilton Head, SC, Community Orchestra which is now the Hilton Head Symphony, where she was principal flutist. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Florida State University. Ann is a Realtor with William Raveis and a retired Broadway orchestra pit keyboardist, working now in the music theater department at Western Connecticut State University.
Donations at the service will be accepted for Loaves & Fishes Hospitality House now located in The Sarah and Danny Straub Community Outreach Center at 25B Bridge St., New Milford. Volunteers at Loaves & Fishes serve hot meals every day to 20 to 26 people as well as bagged lunches. The Center is also a Warming Center through late March.
Following the service, the congregants will light candles outside and sing “Silent Night.”
