Through Gates of Splendor

By: Elisabeth Elliot

The Christian Book Club will read “Through Gates of Splendor” by Elisabeth Elliot for March and will meet Friday, April 8, at 7pm online. In 1956, five young men, including Elliot’s husband, traveled into the jungles of Ecuador to establish communication with the fierce Waorani Tribe. In a nearby village, their wives waited to hear from them. The news they received — all five missionaries had been murdered — changed lives forever. This is a true and lasting story of God’s grace and great courage. Please let Pastor Soans know if you would like to join us, and he will send the link to the congregation.

Christian Book Club will be meeting on Friday, April 8th at 7:00pm via Google Meet to discuss Through Gates of Splendor By: Elisabeth Elliot.

Life Together

By: Dietrich Bonhoeffer

The Christian Book Club will read Life Together by Dietrich Bonhoeffer. A review from intersectproject.org describes the book: “More than 70 years ago, Dietrich Bonhoeffer was killed in a Nazi concentration camp. Bonhoeffer is famous for many things, but Life Together, his classic work on Christian community, is one of the most life-changing books many have read.

In some ways, Life Together is perhaps more relevant today than when Bonhoeffer wrote it. It is a brief but rich treatise on Christian community. In it, Bonhoeffer gives you practical suggestions for how you have to live in Christian community with others. To achieve this goal, he defines community. The subsequent two chapters describe a typical day both in community with others and in solitude. He then explains how you can practically minister to your brethren, and he concludes with the importance of confession and communion.”

We will meet February 11th.
